Q1 : Why Should I Use Organic Skin Care?

A1: Organic products means product is chemical-free, without the use of fertilizers, toxic pesticides and chemical processing, which is bound to be better for our skin.

At least 50 cancer-causing chemicals present in 120 cosmetics and daily used products. - Lipstick / Facial cleanser : 21 cancer-causing agents ; Face lotion / cream: 17 cancer-causing agents; Lip Balm/ gloss: 14 cancer-causing agents - Consumers Association Penang (CAP) Guide

Q2: How long will it take before I see an improvement in my skin?

A2 : Skin tends to regenerate naturally in 4-6 weeks and that is about the same time it takes to notice improvements in your skin texture and tone. For best results, use Saaf products regularly and avoid using any other synthetic/harsh products at the same time.

Q3: Why does Saaf not have a toner?

A3: Saaf believe that toner and exfoliator can damage the top layer of the skin and therefore recommends washing your face with a mild cleanser such as Saaf Organic Pure Face Cleanser, then rinsing off with a soft muslin cloth which will act as a gentle exfoliator. Follow this skincare routine with a splash of cold water, which is really nature’s toner and your Saaf serum/moisturizer.

Q4: Is face serum/ oil better than cream/lotion

A4: Cream contains up to 90% water and the remaining is made up of oils and other actives, which means you are paying a premium price for WATER and not getting the full therapeutic benefit. With face serum /oil you are getting 100% natural nutrients. So, yes, face serum/oil is not just better than cream or lotion but better value for money and more powerful than creams and lotion. At Saaf, we use skin-compatible, non-greasy feeling oils that are easily absorbed into the skin.

Q5: I have an oily skin, do I still need to moisturizer?

A5: People often think that applying neat oil on greasy or acne-prone skin will make matters worse. In fact, it is the opposite which is why Saaf recommends its Organic Pure Face Cleanser for all skin types, including oily. Skin dried out by harsh detergent-based face washes and watery moisturizers compensates by producing more sebum and oil. All types of skin however oily it may be, needs nurturing with vitamins and natural oils to ensure that it is in its best possible condition. The best formulation for oiler skin types is Saaf Organic Complexion Boosting Serum. Please also read the posts on the Benefits of Saaf’s Main Ingredients such as Ylang Ylang etc which forms the serum.

Q6: I’m pregnant, should I be worried about using essential oils?

All Saaf skin care products are safe for use during pregnancy, since we use the finest quality essential oils and very little of it. However, the Complexion Boosting Serum contains the essential oil of Juniper Berry, which some aroma therapists believe may be contra-indicated in pregnancy. We use less than 0.2% of Juniper Berry in Complexion Boosting Serum, which the founder developed for her personal use during her pregnancy to her twins. For pregnancy, we would also recommend using Saaf Eraser Body Oil for stretch marks and as a general body moisturizer.

Q7: Your product claims to be alcohol-free but some contains Benzyl Alcohol?

A7: Benzyl Alcohol is a natural part of Ylang Ylang essential oil and according to cosmetics Safety Regulation, it has to be declared on all packaging. It is not alcohol as in “beers and spirits” but its scientific name ends in alcohol. It is permissible for use in Halal certified products, as it is a natural constituent of many essential oils such as Rose or Jasmine.

Q8: Do you use perfumes in your products?

A8: Saaf only uses natural essential oil as “perfume”, which are fragranced with steam-distilled essential oils, chosen for their therapeutic effect based on Essential Oil Safety recommendations by Research Institute of Fragrance Materials

Q9: Why aren’t your products 100% organic ?

A9: Safe science is important to Saaf and our organic levels are governed by European Cosmetic Safety Regulations as well as a need for long term shelf life and product efficacy. We use very high levels of Natural Vitamin E as antioxidants in the products for this reason. Natural Vitamin E is not organic certifiable and because of this, our typical organic content is between 95% to 97% organic.

Q10: Why are cold pressed oils better?

A10: Cold pressed means heat was not used when mechanically pressing the oil. Cold press not only preserves the natural anti-oxidant properties of the oil, but ensures that it does not spoil and become rancid which will have a negative effect on its skin healing properties.
